FAQs:
1. What type of dance is this class? Lyrical/Jazz. My goal is to work on toning our bodies, so we will be working on techinical aspects as well, which are ballet based.
2. What if I've never danced before? Not a problem. We welcome all levels of dancers from beginning to advanced. I will provide simplified steps for beginners to work on, and at the same time I will give more difficult steps as a challenge to more advanced dancers.
3. What should I wear? Whatever you are comfortable in and can move easily in. Most people wear work out clothes such as yoga style pants, tank tops and jazz shoes. You can also wear a leotard and tights if that is your style. If you don't have jazz shoes, wear ballet slippers or bear claws. If you don't have any type of dance shoe, you can wear a more form fitting sneaker such as Keds. But nothing too bulky that you might twist your ankle or not be able to point your foot in. If anything...you can wear socks with light treads on them. Just don't wear anything that you'll slip and fall in.
4. How old do I have to be for this class? There actually is no age requirement. We are just providing a class like this for women to enjoy and feel like they're not in a dance class with little kids. But if you have a daughter who likes to dance and can handle a 90 minute class and be well behaved, then by all means, bring her.
5. What is a typical class like? 1. We will start off with a warm-up 2. Then we will work on technique: including isolations, legs & feet, arm exercises, and balancing. 3. Next will be core strength training such as sit ups and push ups. 4. Then we will do across the floor exercises such as turns, kicks, and jumps. 5. The last 15-30 minutes includes learning steps to a routine and a cool down/stretch period. You will be able to burn around 300-700 calories depending on how hard you work.
6. I heard there was child care, is that true? We canNOT offer childcare at this time. There are adjacent class rooms to the big gym where we will be dancing, and if you want to bring a sitter or older child that you trust to keep an eye on your children, that is fine. But we just ask that you leave the room clean and in good condition. Afterall, this is a church building and meetings are held in these rooms on Sundays. And please do not have your children run around in the halls or gym, this can cause disruption for our class time.
7. Why are you not charging for this class? This class is offered as a free class only from July 2-August 1st. I am an experienced dancer/teacher who is offering this as a trial period to see how many women are interested in continuing this class in the fall. By then I will have a permanent dance facility located somewhere else. And the church building that we are using has regulations that will not allow us to charge money to anyone using the facility. So please come and take advantage of this free opportunity to get to know other women, get some good exercise, and dapple a little into the creative art of dance.
8. Where is this class located? 2000 E. Lincoln Ave in Sunnyside. It is in the big gym at the LDS church.
9. What if I need to miss a class? No problem. This is an open class, you can come and go as you like. We totally understand how busy the summer months can be. Just come when you can. But this class is only offered as a "free" class for 5 weeks. Also, by the end of the 5 weeks, we will have learned a full dance routine which we may OR may not decide to perform in front of our families. We will decide during one of our classes if we'd like to present our dance number to an "audience" at the end of the 5 week period...or maybe we'll just perform the routine for each other!
